What is SSC Stenographer 2020-21 exam?

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts SSC Stenographer exam every year for recruitment of Stenographer Grade C (Group B Non-Gazetted) and Grade D (Group C) for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organisations. 

SSC Stenographer Latest Updates 

Oct 10, 2020: SSC Stenographer 2020-21 notification has been released by SSC. Interested candidates can fill the application form till November 4. The exam will be conducted from March 29 to 31, 2020.

SSC Stenographer 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria.

Nationality 

Candidates must be either

(I) Citizen of India or

(II) A subject of Nepal or 

(III) Citizen of Bhutan or 

(IV) Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling in India or

(V) ndian origin person who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. 

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories II,III, IV and V in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Indian Government.

SSC has released SSC Stenographer notification 2020-21 on October 10. The notification is available in PDF format on the official website. The notification contains details such as important dates, number of vacancies, how to apply, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, syllabus, etc. Candidates are advised to read the notification before applying.

SSC Stenographer 2020-21 recruitment

SSC Stenographer 2020-21 recruitment is conducted to select Stenographer Grade C and D. The Stenographer Grade C post falls under Group B Non-Gazetted category. The Stenographer Grade D posts comes under Group C category. Only candidates who have desired skills in Stenography can apply for the exam.

Release of notification

SSC Stenographer notification date has been announced. Earlier, the notification was scheduled to be released on August 4. However, it was delayed by SSC.

Earlier, the application form was scheduled to be released on August 4. The last date of application was September 3. The application form can be filled online only. The application fees can be paid both online and offline.

Earlier, the exam was scheduled to take place from December 1 to 3, 2020. However, it has been postponed to next year. The exam will be conducted across various cities in the country.

Selection Process of SSC Stenographer

The complete selection process of SSC Stenographer is explained below:

Release of application form:  is released online. The application fee is Rs 100, Women and Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with disability (PwD) and Ex-servicemen (ESM) candidates are exempted from fee payment.

Issue of admit card:  is released online on the respective regional websites of the commission. Candidates can access their admit cards by logging with registration ID/roll number/candidate’s name and password. 

Computer Based Test: This is the first stage of SSC Stenographer Grade C & D. The computer-based test is conducted for all candidates who successfully register for the exam. The exam comprises three sections, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension. The total marks for the test are 200.

Declaration of result:  will be declared online for different stages of exams. The result will be available in PDF format. It will display the roll numbers of qualified candidates. Along with the result, SSC Stenographer cut off mars for various posts and categories are also released. 

Skill Test in Stenography: This stage is conducted for the shortlisted candidates of the Computer Based Test. Candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi. Candidates need to type the dictation at the speed of 100 words per minute for the post of Stenographer Grade C and 80 w.p.m for the post of Grade D.

SSC Stenographer 2020-21 vacancies will be announced in due course of time.SSC is yet to notify SSC Stenographer 2019-20 vacancies. In 2018, the total number of vacancies announced for SSC Stenographer Grade C & D exam was 1,464, out of which 473 were for Stenographer Grade C and 991 for Stenographer Grade D.

SSC Stenographer 2020-21 Exam Centres 

The list of exam centres has been released by SSC along with the notification. Candidates are required to enter their choices of exam centres while filling SSC Stenographer application form. Candidates have the option to choose three SSC Stenographer exam centres in order of priority in the same region. Check here the complete list of SSC Stenographer exam centres. 

Important Instructions for the exam

  • Candidates need to carry Aadhaar Card, Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, Voter’s ID Card along with the admit card.
  • Electronic items like mobile phones, calculator, pagers, etc are not allowed inside the exam centre.
  • Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre one hour early to complete the verification process
  • Candidates will not be allowed to leave the exam hall till the completion of test.
