The Assam state Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu will hold a crucial meeting with all stakeholders including students unions and teachers to take a call on conducting Class 10 and 12 State Board Exams 2021.
The students in Assam are actively demanding the cancellation of the Assam Class 10 and Class 12 Board exams 2021, in view of the current COVID-19 pandemic situation.
The students on Sunday started an online campaign on Twitter with over 1 million tweets seeking cancellation of the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) exams.
Several reasons for the cancellation of the state board exams have been brought to light by the students. Some even asked SEBA and AHSEC to consider alternative assessment methods as a one-time measure in the current situation.
Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu had on Monday had hinted at holding the High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary exams that had been delayed due to the second wave of COVID-19 in the state.
"My suggestion to the students would be to continue their studies. We will come to a decision after meeting with all the stakeholders from 11 am tomorrow (Tuesday). We will release an SOP to that effect," Dr. Ranoj Pegu told the media on Monday.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently said that the state government should make a decision over holding exams only after the CBSE shares its modalities on assessing students.
The CBSE Class 12 board exams were cancelled on June 1, after PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting regarding the same. Following this decision, CISCE and several state boards decided to cancel the Class 12 board exams.
