The National Human Rights Commission of India (abbreviated as NHRC) is a statutory body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993. It was given a statutory basis by the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 (PHRA) The NHRC is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, defined by the act as “Rights Relating To Life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the constitution or embodied in the international covenants and enforceable by courts in India”
NHRC Winter Internship 2025
According to Section 12(h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act of 1993, the National Human Rights Commission is tasked with advancing human rights literacy and awareness. Since 1998 and 2000, respectively, the Commission has been holding regular "Winter and Summer Internship Programs" to raise awareness among college students about the importance of promoting and defending human rights.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students who have completed 1st year and are pursuing 2nd or 3rd year LLB (3 years) courses;
- Students who have completed 3 years OR Semester VI of the 5 year course of BA/BA LLB etc. and pursuing 4th and 5th years;
- Students pursuing L.L.M. Course;Mass
- Students pursuing PG Diploma in Human Rights, MA in Human Rights, PG students of Political Science, Sociology, Social Work (MSW), Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, History, Communication, International Relations and any of the discipline of Social Sciences would be considered with preference to students pursuing their final year;
- Only students of regular courses of UGC Recognized Universities will be eligible.
- Students must have attained a minimum of 65% marks in Class XII and all subsequent Semesters in attended/attending Wir degree programs.
- Interaction with the Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of NHRC iii.) Research project work on Human Rights issues
- Book Review
- Films on Human Rights & Discussion – Child Labour issues, Anti Trafficking, Rights of the Elderly, Health and Education issues etc. and discussions
- Field Visits to Police Stations, Jail, NGOs and Parliament House/National Commission for Women / Minorities/ Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes / National Green Tribunal/ National Legal Service Authority / National Commission for Protection of Child Rights/Supreme Court of India.
- The interns have to get their registration done on the date of arrival.
- Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of their punctuality, discipline, participation in the sessions; timely submission of Group Project Presentations & Project Reports, and, Book Reviews.
- It is mandatory for interns to attend all the sessions of the internship. Any application of leave will not be entertained.
- Their daily attendance will be marked in a register/ attendance sheet.
- All selected interns who successfully complete the internship will be paid an amount of Rs. 12,000/- (Rupees Twelve Thousand only)
- Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of the following:
- Attendance, Punctuality, Discipline and Participation in sessions i.e. mandatory;
- Timely submission of Group Project Presentation, Project Reports and Book Review.
- An amount of Rs.15,000/-, Rs. 10,000/-, and Rs.5,000/- will be given as prize money for interns who are placed Ist, IInd, and IIIrd respectively for the Group Research Project.
- The five interns with the highest marks for the Book Review will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs.1,000/- each.
- The top three interns from the Declamation contest will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs.1,000/- each.
